Hey all, Dani here.
First things first, I made an announcement a couple months ago about two conventions Mousai Books was planning to attend this summer/fall. Everything is still good for Wizard World Ohio July 29-31, but right now we are on the wait list for Cincinnati Comic Expo. I was waiting for my income tax refund to arrive before I bought the table and it’s a big popular convention so all the spots filled up before my check was deposited. Hopefully we’ll still get in, but I’ll keep you guys updated.
Also, work started to give me more hours and then I fell even deeper into my book binge so I unfortunately haven’t been able to keep up with the #MayBookPrompt posts. I’ll probably try those again at some point but right now I just can’t successfully fit it into my schedule.
As for reading…I am on my 13th book for the month of May. Yes, I realize today is only May 10th.
I almost forgot how much I love it when I devour books one after the other and forget most other hobbies. I think I’ve watched about 10 hours of TV since April 1st. Last month I wrote 40K words and read 18 books, and I’m on track to read between 26-30 books this month. And guys, it feels so darn good.
I’m seriously going to have to look at my list of DVRd shows and see which ones I can cut out of my schedule. There are several shows that I let stack up until there’s like 8 or 9 episodes on my DVR and then I’ll just binge watch them all one day. If I can wait that long on a show, then I might as well just wait until it’s on DVD and then binge the whole season over a weekend.
I have freed up so much more time now that I’m ignoring the TV. My mind has been a great deal more active these past few weeks so I’m feeling really good about being able to sit down and write…just as soon as I finish my TBR for the month of May. I have a stack of 13 books and I really want to get them finished. If I keep going at my current pace then I’ll actually probably have them finished by May 25th or so.
Then I’ll spend the last bit of May doing some copy editing for Signy Cullen’s new book, Beautiful Liar. Once I’ve gotten her book back to her then I’ll finish the final touches on my draft of Project Death: Revelation and send it off to my lovely beta readers for input. With any luck they can get it back to me and then I can get it all polished up in time to publish at the beginning of July, which will be perfect timing for my convention appearance.
In the meantime, I’m also writing up ideas and loose scripts for the first few vlogs I’m planning on doing. I’ve been spending more time on Booktube and it’s inspired me to go for it myself. I have been thinking about filming book review videos and bookish topic videos for a while now but I’ve always been too nervous about the whole thing. But I’m done being nervous or scared about it. I love talking about books and talking with other book lovers so even if my view count is atrocious I don’t care. Hopefully you’ll come check out my videos when I get started.
Anyway, I really want to get back to my reading now. I re-devoured the whole Percy Jackson series over the weekend, and now I am finally reading past The Lost Hero, the first book in The Heroes of Olympus series. I’m on book three, The Mark of Athena now, so I should be able to read both Magnus Chase and the Trials of Apollo this weekend. I’m almost all caught up on Rick Riordan’s mythology-based books. Yes!
How are you all doing? Reading anything interesting right now? Anything you’d like to recommend? I’ll read any genre if the story and characters sound interesting.
