Hey all, Dani here.
Okay, so I’ve been seeing this tag pop up quite a bit, so it’s about time that I just jump on board and do it myself. First I saw it over on Rachel’s blog (rachaelrexds), and most recently I saw it on a new book blog I’m following by Dawlyn and Krista (Little Blind Book Finds). You can find each of their posts at the links I’ve included.
1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2017
I don’t like to pick favorites, but this book was simply outstanding. It will be released at the end of August, and I am just so glad that I was able to pick up an ARC at BookExpo, and that it was signed as well. Gregory Scott Katsoulis is an author I definitely have moved onto my auto-buy list. I’m curious to see what he comes up with next. My review for this book will be up in just a couple more weeks.
2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2017
I’ve only read a few books that are a part of a series this year…such as binge reading the first four books of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series…and this one, book #4, has to be my favorite of the series thus far. I need to find some free reading time so I can continue with the series though. I still have quite a ways to go in order to catch up.
3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To
There are so many books I could put on this list, and I’m actually sad that I haven’t been able to read The Crown’s Fate or Flame in the Mist. I got them in the mail a few days after they were released. Again, I need some free time in my reading schedule to slip in a read or two just for fun.
4. Most Anticipated Release For the Second Half of the Year
Terminal Alliance was supposed to come out on my birthday but it was pushed back a couple months and will now be released Nov. 7th. I love Jim C. Hines’ books and am really looking forward to this book which apparently follows janitors on a space ship. Then there’s A Plague of Giants, a new epic fantasy book by Kevin Hearne, author of the Iron Druid Chronicles (which I absolutely love), so I’m really excited for this one to come out on Oct. 17th. As a kid I really enjoyed reading His Dark Materials trilogy, so to learn that new books are coming is awesome. I need to find time to reread the trilogy before I read The Book of Dust, which will be released Oct. 19th. Finally, one of my top reads of 2016 was The Diabolic, which at the time was a stand-alone novel. Now it turns out there actually is more to the story, so needless to say I’m curious to see what will happen in The Empress, which is being released Oct. 31st.
5. Biggest Disappointment
This wasn’t a bad book…I think I gave it a 3.5 stars, but I was just expecting more from it. The premise sounded interesting and I dove into it with gusto. It wasn’t as fantastic as the synopsis and the hype made it out to be. You can find my review for this book here.
6. Biggest Surprise
I liked the premise for this one and it sounded interesting, even if it isn’t my normal type of read. Honestly though, I just didn’t expect to get so wrapped up in the web of secrets woven throughout the book. You can find my review here.
7. Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You)
My geeky little fangirl heart so loved this fandom inspired take on Cinderella, and I cannot wait to see what Ashley Poston comes up with next. Likewise, the fantasy lover and the lover of classic literature absolutely delighted in this take on Pride & Prejudice that included dragons and wyverns and hobgoblins, so I can definitely say that I am now a fan of Elle Katharine White. Finally I had been hearing about Elise Kova quite a bit in the book community and I finally took a chance with her upcoming release and I loved it; now I’m going to have to find time to not only read the sequel, but also go back and read her other book series.
8. Newest Fictional Crush
My newest fictional crushes include Wallace from Eliza and Her Monsters, and Seth from Lucky in Love. Both guys are cute and fun and supportive of their respective ladies. What can I say? I love supportive and geeky guys.
9. Newest Favorite Character
I greatly enjoyed Mira in this newest book by one of my favorite authors, Richelle Mead. She is strong in so many ways, and I admire her resourcefulness and her courage. My review for this book can be found here.
10. Book That Made You Cry
Obviously the choice for this category has to go to Adam Silvera, who has made me cry with each one of his book releases. This book is just one I think people need to read. My review will be up in a couple of weeks, as this book will be released at the beginning of September.
11. Book That Made You Happy
Again, this book was just so cute and geeky. I loved how different elements of Cinderella were altered to fit the modern fandom setting. This will definitely be a book I’ll turn to when I need a happy little pick me up.
12. Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought So Far This Year (or Reviewed)
I read an early copy of Dreamworld last year, but didn’t buy the paperback until this year. I am continually amazed by the cover designs and this one is my favorite so far. And I decided to pick another book because I have purchased quite a few beautiful covers this year. I just love all the flowers surrounding the knife on the cover of The Traitor’s Kiss. I still need to read the book though.
You can find my review of Dreamworld here.
13. What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?
Oh so very many books…probably too many to even attempt to name here. I still need to read a large majority of the books I picked up at BookExpo and BookCon (my wrap-up is here). Plus there are a few books from my past TBRs and wrap-ups that I haven’t gotten to yet. Yes, I have read over 50 books so far this year, but I still have almost 6 months left to read so I probably have another 50-75 books left for the year. My goal is 75 but I always start it a bit low and increase it as needed throughout the year.
14. Favorite Book Community Member(s)?
Well, I enjoy quite a few BookTubers (and wrote up a post about them here), but on the book blog front, some of my favorites are: Rachel (rachaelrexds), Sydney (deertalesblog), Casey Carlisle (femaleinferno), Read.Dream.Live, Flavia (Flavia the Bibliophile), Sofii (A Book. A Thought), and Dawlyn and Krista (Little Blind Book Finds).
Okay, well I think that is all for this post. If you have not done this tag and you would like to, consider yourself tagged. Oh, and if you are going to do this tag or you have already, please share the link with me; I would love to check out your answers!
