Part Five – TBR Purge

Hey all, Dani here.

My current TBR list is 744 books long, so it is going down, and I’m hoping to keep eliminating books as my purges continue.

Take a Chance by C.E. Murphy. 1) I love Catie’s books 2) This is a superhero graphic novel. I’m keeping this.

Running with the Pack, an anthology edited by Ekaterina Sedia. This was another collection I added to the list because it has a story by C.E. Murphy in it. But like the other anthology, I can say farewell to this one.

Changeless, Blameless, Heartless, and Timeless by Gail Carriger. I read the first book of this series for the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club, and I had a great time reading it, so I do want to get around to finishing this series.

Riveted by Meljean Brooks. This series is so good, and I’ve read two books so far, but I absolutely need to keep reading them.

Magic Lost, Trouble Found by Lisa Shearin. If I remember right, this was either in a recommendation list from Vaginal Fantasy Book Club, or I just heard Felicia Day talk about the series. I love Felicia Day and I trust her opinion on books so I’ll give this one a try.

End of Days by Thomas E. Sniegoski. Well, I’ve basically fallen out of interest with this kind of book so sorry but goodbye.

Supernaturally and Endlessly by Kiersten White. Okay, so I read the first book in the trilogy and I liked it, but looking back on it I can remember that it felt a bit simplistic or young to me, so now, after having been on this list for a few years, I just don’t think I’ll be completing these books.

Beauty and the Werewolf by Mercedes Lackey. I still love Mercedes Lackey and her various takes on classic fairy tales. Eventually this will be one I pick up, particularly when I’m in the mood for it, so I’m keeping this.

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa. I have wanted to read this trilogy for so long, but I held off so I could get matching covers, and oh yeah, they decided to change the covers in the middle of the trilogy. The first book hardcover does not match the rest…but the third book somehow didn’t come out in paperback in the US. So there is no way I can get a US matching set. I may have to get rid of the two paperbacks I have and buy the UK trilogy from Book Depository. Either way, I still want to read these books so I’m keeping them.

The Rise of Nine by Pittacus Lore. Nope, I’m done with the Lorien Legacies books. I already got rid of my copies.

Taken by Storm by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Now for this one, I’m going to say goodbye for now, but I do own the box set for the series in e-book, so I’m keeping my copies and if the mood strikes I may pick it back up.

Kiss of Frost and Dark Frost by Jennifer Estep. Again, I have these in e-book and I did enjoy the first book, so at some point I will probably get around to these, but for now I am going to take these off my TBR list.

Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl. Well, I already got rid of books two and three, so this is an easy goodbye.

The Girl in the Steel Corset and The Girl in the Clockwork Collar by Kady Cross. I remember being so intrigued by these books when they first started coming out, and I read the prequel novella and enjoyed it, but then I just didn’t keep reading. Right now I’m not fully in the mood for these, but I could see that happening in the future. Thankfully I have these in e-book when I’m ready for them. But I also don’t need them cluttering up my reading list.

The Serpent’s Shadow by Rick Riordan. I do believe I have talked about my love for Rick Riordan books before. This is part of the Kane Chronicles, which is basically the only set of Riordan middle grade books I have not yet read, but I definitely plan to. Absolutely keeping this one.

Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck. Yes, I’ve heard a lot of people talk about this book and the series that follows, but at this point in time I’m just not interested in picking it up. The book summary makes it seem all too obvious that a love triangle will happen. Sorry, but I’m going to pass on this.

Tricked, Trapped, and Hunted by Kevin Hearne. I devour these books. The Iron Druid Chronicles are amazing. But I made myself slow down/stop with them for a while after they started being released in hardcover format. I like owning matching sets and since I started the series in mass market paperback, I want to finish it that way. Sadly that means waiting an extra year for each book. But I still love them and gush about the characters frequently so I’m keeping these.

The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop. A couple bookish writer friends have talked about these books, and I’ve seen it mentioned by the readers in the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club. I own the omnibus collection of the original trilogy and am still intrigued about the story. I’ll keep these.

Two Ravens and One Crow, A Test of Mettle, Kaibab Unbound, and Clan Rathskeller by Kevin Hearne. I promise, I won’t gush about my love of Kevin Hearne again in this post, but these are stories that take place within the Iron Druid Chronicles, and obviously I plan to read them.

Well, this time around I managed to eliminate 12 more books from my TBR list. So I’m keeping 18 out of 30, which is quite a bit, but I still feel like I’m making some progress. Are any of you guys currently weeding out your over-the-top TBR lists? Let me know in the comments, and good luck with your TBR purges.

    • I’m glad my TBR makes you feel better about your own. And yeah, I’ll find a series that sounds good and I’ll add all of them, even if there are 15. I need to start by just adding the first one, and if it is good then I can add the second one. It’ll keep my list from getting so massive again.

  1. I read the ‘Black Jewels’ trilogy when I was a teenie and liked it. It’s definitely something different, dark & magical. I read a short story collection set in the same world after, which was alright and then started a prequel, but dnf. But I do have fond memories of the trilogy!

Magic Lost, Trouble found… I had that on my wishlist for ages but never got to it and forgot about it in the end. It’s probably worth a look again 🙂 Thanks for reminding me that it exists haha
