My Good Reading Habits Book Tag

Hey all, Dani here.

I am currently in the middle of juggling regular life with all of the cleaning and packing that comes right before a big move, so today’s post may be a tiny bit shorter than normal. But that’s okay, because it is a book tag. I was tagged by the lovely Laurel at The Inky Saga, so thanks Laurel! I haven’t spent a lot of time checking out her blog (yet), but she is a new follower of mine and I love that she decided to tag a bunch of new to her blogs for this. It’s always awesome to get to know more and more people in the online bookish community, so go check out Laurel’s blog. It seems pretty darn awesome.

First up, the rules.

Rules

That’s all. Pretty simple right?

I make time for reading.

Honestly, I think this is one of the best reading habits I have. I pretty much always have a book with me–especially since I have both the Kindle and NOOK apps on my phone–and anytime I have a few free minutes, I tend to read. Or check out book blogs. But mostly I read. I think that’s why I’m able to read as many books as I do each year.

Diversifying

Okay, I don’t know if this is a thing, but I’m going with it. I diversify the age range of books I read, so Middle Grade, Young Adult, and Adult. I diversify genres by reading fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary, graphic novel, manga, romance, etc. And I diversify book type, reading e-books, paperbacks, and hardcovers. Oh, I also try and diversify from large print publishers, indie publishers, and self-published authors. Basically, so long as the story sounds interesting, I’ll give a book a try.

Sticking With It

Again, is this a thing? I don’t know, but oh well. I’m not a big DNF’er. I am 30 years old, and I have been a bookworm for probably 26 or 27 of those years–seriously, I am a lifelong reader. It’s why I can’t tell you what books got me into reading. Was it Dr Seuss? I don’t know. Anyway, because I’ve been reading for so long, I generally have a good idea of what kind of books I’m going to like, and because of that, I typically finish what I’m reading. Now, have I been known to get halfway through a book and then forget about it for months? Well, yeah, sometimes. But I eventually get back around to it and finish.

Man, it was actually pretty difficult for me to think of a few reading habits that I think I do well. I just think of myself as average in a lot of my reading habits, so trying to pick the ones I’m least average at was a lot harder than I originally imagined when I decided to do this post for today.

And now I’m supposed to tag a few people. Oh boy. Okay, let’s go with Katie from Never Not Reading, Adrienne from Darque Dreamer Reads, Flavia from Flavia the Bibliophile, and YOU, whoever you are reading this post!

That’s all from me today, but I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.

  1. These are some good habits! ❤ I wish I was better at making time for reading. It's not always a high priority and I don't find it too practical personally to travel with a book at all times, but I love that there are people out there that do.

I probably should have put your second habit down on my list as well. I do think I read somewhat more diversely than the average reads, making a good effort to cross genres regularly. I think it helps keep the reading fresh.

I'm glad you don't need to DNF! I generally think I'm pretty good at knowing whether I'll like a book or not too, but sometimes I'm a little too optimistic to trust popular opinion and get it wrong. ^_^
