Camp NaNoWriMo April 2019

Hey all, Dani here.

It has been a super long week. Normally we only work four days, ten hours each day, but this week we had an extra shift, so we had to work today as well. That’s pretty sucky, but the good news is that the overtime money will be really helpful. Also, I actually think we may be able to get the rest of our boxes moved over to the house. We have friends coming over tomorrow with their trucks and we’ll load the rest of my bookcases, our washer and dryer, and the final few boxes we have up and that will be it. We’ll only have to finish cleaning the apartment and then we’ll be done.

Other than the important part of finally getting my library put together again, I am also looking forward to having a “writing office” set up again. Our master bedroom is large enough to house all of our bedroom furniture, plus my entire library, enough space for a sitting area, and then a writing corner.

What is supremely great about this is that I really would like to jump back into writing, and that definitely means that I need to be able to focus, and a dedicated writing space helps with that. Camp NaNoWriMo is coming around again, and I am hoping to use the deadline to get back into the habit of creative writing.

Camp NaNoWriMo is an off-shoot of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), which takes place every November. Camp NaNoWriMo is a little more relaxed and flexible, and it takes place twice each year, typically in April and July. Unlike November where all participants have a word count goal of 50,000 words in 30 days, for Camp NaNoWriMo participants can choose their own goal, and they can choose between a word count goal or an editing time goal.

So my goal for April is 30,000 words, so 1,000 words each day. I think it should be doable, and if I can manage it then I will have written a decent chunk of a novel. I would really like to get my geeky romance novel written.

There is a story in me that is yearning to come out, and it is all very much inspired by my real love romance with my amazing fiance, Damian. We met through a mutual friend’s Dungeons & Dragons campaign, and the last couple of years together has been one nerdy adventure after another.

I’ve already lined up a couple of people–specifically a few book bloggers–to give me a good beta read of this story once I’ve finished it. So I’m hoping that I can get the words flowing and not take ages to get this book out into the world.

Right now I am working under the title Roll for Romance, though that could potentially change by the end. With D&D and rolling dice being important to the story, I think the title works.

I don’t want to say too much about the characters or the story just yet, but I will definitely be including writing updates each week in my weekly wrap-up post. So there will be a Camp NaNo update each Wednesday through April, and then if the writing muse is with me, then the updates will continue until I finish the book and run it through a few editing passes.

Are any of you out there participating in Camp NaNoWriMo? Let me know in the comments. If not, that’s totally okay. I don’t know, maybe leave me some words of inspiration or encouragement too. I’ve really missed writing, so I hope this is the boost I need to get back to a hobby I love. That’s all for today, but I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
