Manga Review: The Promised Neverland Vol. 1

Hey guys Damian here,

So it’s been a bit busy with memorial day coming up and all the manga and books I’ve been trying to read but here I am. Writing this while waiting for my car to get an oil change and all that good stuff. This weekend may start some cosplay making trips to the local Hobby Lobby afterwards. Anywho back to the review and thanks for reading.

Summary

Emma, Norman and Ray are the brightest kids at the Grace Field House Orphanage. And under the care of the woman they refer to as “Mom,” all the kids have enjoyed a comfortable life. Good food, clean clothes and the perfect environment to learn-what more could an orphan ask for? One day, though, Emma and Norman uncover the dark truth of the outside world they are forbidden from seeing.

Review

Rating: 5

I grabbed this manga out of curiosity for the anime, however I decided to give the manga a go instead. Now I knew the summary said the outside world was dark and I did not think of the rating being for Older Teen. I’ll be honest, this manga got dark quicker than Majin Boo scarfing down chocolate and I was in the middle of a bar having a drink before a show when I got to that part. I had to read this while walking to the theatre to get to the conclusion to what these kids are going to do about their interesting predicament. The artwork did send me for a loop a bit as it makes sure you are aware of which parts should be seen as the darker bits of what started off as a cute story about orphans. I find it really hard to write this review without spoiling anything that how much of a brain fux this ended up being just a little bit. I definitely recommend this manga and I look forward to reading the next few volumes, which I already purchased haha.
