Hey all, Dani here.
Wow, I only have two more work days to go on third shift and then I can get back to my normal hours. Having to do a temporary switch from being a day person to a night person has been interesting and frankly pretty tiring. But it’s also been pretty great for reading and blogging, and also a little bit for getting things done around the house.
Damian and I have finally started to get our geeky art prints up on the walls, and I picked up a closet organizer kit and started getting our Master Bedroom closet straightened up. I’ll need to get another one of the kits, but after that I think we’ll finally be able to put up the cosplay crafting area that Damian’s been wanting. I’m getting ready to turn my attention to getting the reading area together in the Master Bedroom and then also getting a desk and other accessories so I can have an office corner for novel writing and blogging. We’ve been living in our house for four months now and there’s still a lot we need to do in order to be fully settled. Like, we still don’t have proper seating in our living room–we’re using bean bag chairs at the moment.
Anyway, you guys aren’t here to listen to me ramble on about our house or anything–though if you would like a tour of all of our geekery, then let me know. I’d be happy to put together a geeky house tour for you. You’re here to talk about reading and books. So let’s get into talking about everything that I’ve read in the past week, what I’m currently reading, and what I’m hoping to start reading next.
Books read: My Hero Academia Vigilantes Volume 5 by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court, VIZ Manga Sampler 2019 (featuring 7 different newer manga releases), Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits Volume 1 by Midori Yuma and Wako Iota, Roomies by Christina Lauren, Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits Volume 2 by Midori Yuma and Wako Iota, Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits Volume 3 by Midori Yuma and Wako Iota, Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits Volume 4 by Midori Yuma and Wako Iota, and Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim.
Wow, so yeah, I read a lot of manga in the past week. What can I say? I really enjoy them and I read them quickly. If I wanted to be smart about it, I would write up rough reviews now so I can fine tune them later for my Manga Monday posts. At the rate I read these, I could actually probably have posts scheduled through the end of the year if I sat down and wrote them up.
For my current reads, as per usual, I’m in the middle of a few different books. Three of them are reads for the two readathons I’m participating in, and then City of Stairs is because I just felt like picking it up. I’m trying to take my time with it, but so far, I’m really enjoying the political intrigue and complexities of the world, even if at times it is a bit confusing.
Finally, for the books I’m hoping to start in the next week, again, there are so many options for this one. I’d like to finish my TBRs for both #AGameofBooksathon and DND Readathon, especially since I am planning on doing The Reading Rush (formerly BookTubeAThon), and that readathon is July 22-28. It would be nice to finish my current reading plans before trying to dive into something else. I will have my Reading Rush TBR up in just a few more days, but none of those books are featured in today’s post. Nope, those are other books that I might be picking up in the time before going to Gen Con.
Oh, and for my writing update, because I am doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month, I’ve only managed to write a couple very rough scenes or snippets of scenes for my novel. However, I have done a lot of thinking, planning, world-building, outlining, and more. So for the purposes of Camp NaNo, I am counting all of those behind-the-scenes words. Writing has just felt difficult for me the past couple of years, but I really do miss it, and also, I’ve had so many people asking about the release of my second book, so I’d like to be able to give them a solid answer in the near future.
As for watches, we haven’t actually watched a whole lot. We started the sixth season of “The Big Bang Theory,” and on my own I’m sort of starting a re-watch of “The Tudors” from the very beginning. I don’t know; I’m in a bit of an angsty sexy drama mood. It happens.
