Hey all, Dani here.
Holy smokes, this is the 700th post I’ve written and posted for this blog. That number doesn’t include the posts by Damian or Signy; just mine. I’m not going to lie: this feels like a pretty big accomplishment. I never dreamed that this blog would do this well, and I’m constantly amazed by how wonderful this online bookish community is.
I’m going to start with watches this time around. Mostly I’m doing this because I actually forgot about some stuff we watched before and during our time at Gen Con. So we finished the sixth season of “The Big Bang Theory,” and at Gen Con (in the hotel), we watched “Hancock,” “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” and “Remember the Titans.” Since that time we have watched all of “The Big Bang Theory (season 7),” and then had a children’s movie marathon by watching “Up,” “Finding Nemo,” “Lady and the Tramp,” “The Aristocats,” and “Frozen.” We are currently making our way through the eighth season of “The Big Bang Theory.” So yeah, we’ve been having a nice relaxing time of watching a lot of awesomeness.
On the reading front, I almost went into a reading slump, which is not fun considering that I’m trying to do the NEWTs Reading Challenge and I’m wanting to catch up on a bunch of reads and reviews for NetGalley’s #Reviewathon. I just wasn’t finding a whole lot of reading time, and when I was reading, I wasn’t making it super far into what I was reading, which was The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang. Overall I think I’ve been trying to make my way through this book all month. But I finally finished it. All of these reading issues made me realize that I needed to make some small changes to my NEWTs TBR, so I changed my book recommended by a friend from a 500+ page epic fantasy to a manga that Damian has been wanting me to read, and then I ended up reading the first two volumes of the series. So I’m finally making progress on my NEWTs and have earned an A so far in Ancient Runes. Oh, I guess I should say what manga I read: Volumes 1 and 2 of Assassination Classroom by Yusei Matsui.
As a point of good news, I am flying through my current read, which is great. Seriously, I read 39% of this book at work today, and am probably going to read more tonight. So honestly I could probably finish this book tomorrow, which would mean that I’ll have earned my A in Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Then there’s what I’m hoping to read next. There are so many NetGalley ARCs I’m really wanting to read, so it’s making it difficult to choose. But then again, if I read them as quickly as my current read then I’ll be able to make a pretty good dent in my TBR.
But I’m also hoping to do a little more writing craft work, though I don’t know which of my writing books I want to pick up. That’ll be a project for this weekend so I’ll probably make a stack of books and then choose a winner from there. I know a few of the writing craft books are actually still somewhat buried in a box in the closet, so I have to figure out a better organization system.
Anyway, I do believe that is all for today. Let me know what you’re reading in the comments, and I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
