Hey all, Dani here.
How are you doing today? I hope your December is going well so far. I’m hoping this is going to be an absolutely fantastic month. I have a lot of reading planned, and hopefully some blog prep and possibly some other fun things as well.
Anyway, it is the first Monday of the Month and that means it is once again time for a Calendar Girls post.
Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event that was started by Flavia and Melanie, but is now being hosted by Katie and Adrienne. They are all wonderful ladies, and you should check out their lovely blogs. Oh, and if you go to either Katie or Adrienne‘s Calendar Girls post each month, they will have links to all the other wonderful book bloggers participating in this event.
First, more about the Calendar Girls. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.
Just like the song, each month has a different theme. Each blogger picks their favorite book from the theme, and on the first Monday of the month reveals their pick in a Calendar Girls post. Make sure to post back to the hostess’s post, and both Katie and Adrienne will make a master list for the month. The master lists allow everyone to see the other Calendar Girls’ picks and to pop on over to their blogs. Thus, we all get to chat about books and even make some new friends!
Oh, and you don’t have to identify as female to join the Calendar Girls. We welcome readers of all types. So if this sounds like fun for you, join us in all of the fun bookish conversations.
Finally, the December theme is…
Best Diverse Cast
Hmm…there are so many possible options for this one. I do love a good diverse cast, and these past few years we have been getting more and more wonderfully developed casts of characters from all walks of life. They are different races, different gender and sexual identifications, different religions and political affiliations, and yet they all end up having fantastic and epic adventures (whether in a contemporary or fantasy or sci-fi setting). Here are just a few of my favorite diverse casts. I have several different diversity recommendation posts up on my blog, so there’s plenty more to talk about other than the books mentioned here.
Also, as I am currently participating in Diverse December, expect a bunch of diverse read reviews throughout the month.
Okay, so now for the books I want to briefly mention that aren’t my winner…
But only one book can be my chosen winner for this month, and that book is one that I really need to re-read. I very much love it, and I do remember it being chock full of so many different characters, from race, to gender identification, to sexual preferences, belief systems, cultures, and more. And while this book has made it onto several of my recommendations and top reads lists, I somehow didn’t write up a review for it…so that makes it even more likely that I’ll re-read it soon, because I’d like to post a review.
Have you guys read this book yet? If not, you should give it a try. It’s fantastic!
Anyway, that is all from me for today, but I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.
