Weekly Wrap-Up (77)

Hey all, Dani here.

It has weirdly been pretty easy to readjust to working the night shift, but I’m still glad that the week is nearly over. Neither Damian nor I tend to sleep all that well when we are on opposite shifts because we are so used to sleeping with another person next to us now.

Let’s see…when it comes to watches for the last week, we watched Season One of “Alphas,” we went to the drive-in theater and watched “Inside Out” and “Space Jam,” and we watched “Hocus Pocus.” I also watched a couple more episodes of Season Two of “Fruits Basket,” and watched a few older episodes of “Critical Role” to get ready for an upcoming D&D campaign I’ll be in with Damian and some other friends.

Oh, again there’s no video game update to mention.

I guess I can say that we’ve been doing research into other rural internet providers in our area, because our contract is almost up with our current provider. We’re hoping that we can make a switch to a better internet, because it would improve our ability to watch shows online. It is a pipe dream to hope that it would be good enough for online video gaming, but I suppose there is a very slim possibility that it could happen.

Okay, here’s what I read in the past week. Not only am I continuing my goal the past couple months of reading more diversely, but I also decided to participated in Noura’s Diversify That Shelf Readathon, which technically has a bunch of POC/AOC/diversity rep prompts to it, but I haven’t set an actual TBR for. But I managed to read the last 80 pages of The City of Brass, all of Girl, Serpent, Thorn, and most of The Candle and the Flame during Dewey’s Reverse Summer Readathon Aug 7-8, so that was pretty cool. And I have really loved pretty much all of the books I’ve been reading lately.

My current reads are The Faithless Hawk and Forest of Souls. I was so happy to get a late approval for one of my most anticipated releases through NetGalley, and I hope to get a review up for this book in the next week or so, so stay tuned for that. I’m really hoping to find a little bit of downtime so I can write up reviews for a bunch of the books I’ve read over the past month or so, because I am overdue on so many reviews.

Okay, look at those covers together. Seriously, both of these books have gorgeous and slightly creepy covers. It’s pretty fantastic. I’m only a couple pages into Forest of Souls so I can’t say too much about it, but the concept sounds fascinating and I’m hoping to fly through it.

There are so many books I’m hoping to get to soon, but my first priorities are to books like Ignite the Sun, which I was approved for through NetGalley, and Where Dreams Descend, which I’m part of the blog tour for, so I definitely will be reading this book over the weekend. Akata Warrior and The Dark Tide I recently got in the mail and they both sound really interesting, so I do want to read them soon. But honestly there are so many books that I want to read soon, and I don’t have as much time as I would like to read everything I want to.

All right, well I do believe that is all from me for today. What are you currently reading? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll be back soon with more bookish content.

    1. Yeah, it was a pretty good reading week. I will be rereading Kingdom of Copper soon. In my reread of City of Brass I realized that I had forgotten most of the details, though I remembered that I loved reading it, so I’m wondering if my KoC experience will be similar. My fiance bought me Empire of Gold for my birthday so I hope to read it soon. Happy reading!
