Watch & Review

Hey all, Dani here.

Since I started getting back into the swing of blogging again, I’ve been talking about wanting to have posts about more than just books and reading, so I figured for today I would just try and do some mini-reviews and discussions of things I’ve been watching lately. My April Reading Wrap-Up is coming very soon, as is the next Calendar Girls monthly post. Hopefully the USPS decides to finally get my last book haul to me soon–they’ve had it in the same spot for a week now when it was supposed to be delivered three days ago–because I’d love to get my April Book Haul and OwlCrate Unboxing up soon as well.

Until then…let’s talk about shows and movies, shall we?

Damian and I binge-watched “Shadow and Bone” last weekend. I was just going to watch a couple episodes at a time, but he decided to check the show out with me…and then he wanted to just keep watching and keep watching…and next thing I know we’ve finished the whole first season. As predicted, Kaz and crew were my favorite, and it’s no surprise to me that Jesper ended up being Damian’s favorite either, because Jesper is great. Overall I really enjoyed the show, and I’m not going to say too much about it because I don’t want to risk delving into potential spoiler territory, but I will say that I didn’t like how much they seemed to repeat the exact same flashback moments over and over when it came to Alina and Mal. I could understand it a few times, but it seemed like pretty much every episode they had to show us either the exact same scene or give us a few additional seconds within the scene that didn’t really expand on all that much. Maybe I’m the only one who felt that way. I am hoping that they announce a season two because I really want Nikolai and hopefully Wylan. I guess we’ll just have to see what happens.

Also in watches with Damian, we’ve almost finished our watch through of “Supernatural” Season 7. I’ve watched all of these episodes before, but Damian missed a bunch of episodes because his family would just binge-watch while he was at work and refuse to go back so he could watch too. Anyway, he just met one of my all-time favorite recurring characters: Charlie Bradbury, played by the amazing Felicia Day. So we only have a few more episodes left for this season, and honestly I’ll be glad to leave the Leviathans behind. They weren’t the best season villain in Supernatural’s history.

Oh, and I guess I should mention that Damian and I are watching “Invincible” on Amazon Prime as well. It’s an adult animated superhero show based on the comic of the same name. It was created by the guy who wrote The Walking Dead comics as well. So there’s blood and violence. And it borrows a lot of superhero themes and powers from the Justice League and Avengers and such, but overall it actually is a pretty good show.

Oh, oh…I absolutely have to talk about “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney+. That finale episode was outstanding, and honestly from start to finish I think the show was so very well done. I’m excited to hear that a Captain America 4 film is now in the works, because I am definitely looking forward to seeing that. Again, I won’t get into details on this…yet…because spoilers, but maybe I’ll do a spoiler filled gush-fest for a future post.

Other than that, we’re just keeping up with our weekly episode of “Critical Role.” There’s actually a new episode tonight, and I know I’m nervous. It feels like we’re heading towards the finale…if not an overall finale for this campaign, at least an epic showdown finale for this huge story/villain arc they’ve been in. The first campaign actually did make it to Level 20 characters, but they’re only currently Level 14 for campaign two. Okay, sure, not every D&D campaign has to get up to 20th level, but it would still be pretty epic to see. I don’t know; I feel like there’s so many other elements that need tied up, so even if they do succeed against this BBEG, there’s still a little more to do before it’s truly over. …Right?

All right, well I guess that’s all for what we’re watching right now. Thanks for stopping by and I’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
