Hey all, Dani here.
So…I disappeared again. I was feeling so good in the month of April. Well certainly at the beginning of April I felt great. I was like a week and a half ahead on my scheduled blogging. And while I wasn’t reading a whole lot, something was better than nothing, and I knew I had a lot of backlist review content I could put out.
And then I hit another big ole slump.
It was like hitting a moment of utter self-consciousness. I’ve been talking about wanting to expand on my content, and talking about how I was going to start talking more about creative writing and Dungeons & Dragons and board games and video games…and had my first D&D post penciled into my blogging calendar…and I got super nervous about how it would be received.
…and unfortunately that froze me up to where I went back to my hidey-hole of not really posting at all.
Is it because I’m a lady blogger and gamer and writer? Maybe a little bit. Is it because I’ve done bookish posts on this blog for the past five years and expanding on that is a bit nerve-wracking and slightly terrifying? I’d be lying if I said no.
But I find that I miss blogging when I’m not doing it. I miss reading too. Okay yes I’ve read 16 books since I last blogged, which isn’t horrible overall…16 books in 2.5 months is still pretty solid. But I keep getting mad at myself because I’m usually reading that many books each and every month.
So…I’m going to try to get back into the swing of things again. I am so SO behind on my reviews for my NetGalley reads, and I’ve read some other pretty outstanding reads this year too, and I’d like to talk about them.
I’m going to start slow…and by that I mean with shorter posts, but I’m gonna try, and see what happens.
Wow, okay, so that’s a pretty long intro to get to what this post is actually supposed to be about…the books I’m hoping to read this summer season. I posted a similar post a few months ago where I talked about five books I wanted to read in April/May/June…and I’d love to say that I was successful in that goal, but my reading slump has had me not tackling some of the huge epic fantasy stories I’ve been wanting to read….so all of those are still on my TBR.
However, right now I want to talk about the books I want to read in the summer season, so the months of July, August, and September. I’ve selected five books, and I actually feel pretty good about my chances of being able to complete these.
Okay so the books I’ve chosen are not super long, and a couple are contemporary so I feel really good about being able to complete them quickly.
There have been so many books that have come out, either at the end of last year or so far this year, that I have been really REALLY wanting to read, and this reading and blogging slump has made it so difficult for me to keep up with everything.
I keep buying these books because I want to read them, and then they pile up in front of my bookshelves and the TBR stacks just stare at me and taunt me with their unmoving presence. It’s frustrating.
Oh, speaking of buying all of these anticipated releases and such…I will have my May and June book hauls coming pretty soon. The June book haul post would have been delayed anyway since OwlCrate shipped the June box in July due to a couple items not arriving in time. So my May Book Haul and OwlCrate Unboxing will be up tomorrow, and I’ll hold off on the June post until next week. The July book haul will depend on how much the OwlCrate is delayed again, because the July box also had some item shipping arrival issues.
Anyway, this post has gotten a bit longer than I was expecting it to, but here you go. I’m back (I hope).
That is all for today but I will be back soon with more geeky content.
