Hey all, Dani here.
All right, as we head to the end of July, I feel like now is the time to talk about some of the August book releases that I’m pretty excited about. Surprisingly there are not as many books as I’ve had in some months in the past. Seriously I think I’ve had some months where I’m looking forward to 5-8 releases each week of the month, which adds up to a whole lot of books I need to get my hands on.
What’s slightly disappointing about there not being as many books I’m looking forward to in August is that my birthday is August 1st and normally I can get a pretty decent birthday book haul, but I don’t know if the haul will be as big this year. But I guess that’s okay. After all, I still have most of the books I’ve purchased this year that I need to read.
I can also say that it is my favorite time of year because the stores are all stocked up on school supplies. As a writer and as both a player and a dungeon master for D&D, I go through a lot of paper and notecards and pencils and erasers and wet/dry erase markers…so the back to school time means that I can stock up on supplies to last me through the upcoming year.
Anyway, I guess it’s time to start talking about upcoming book releases.
First up are the releases for August 3rd. I have the next installment in a manga series I thoroughly enjoy, a dark academia tale, and the third book in an epic fantasy series. So, I already know that A Lesson in Vengeance is going to be the OwlCrate book for August, so I don’t need to pick up a copy of this one, since it’ll already be coming in the mail. And of course, I was supposed to read the first of Devin Madson’s fantasy series as part of my Spring 2021 TBR and I didn’t…so I technically don’t need to get this third book just yet…but I probably will, because I know how important book sales can be for authors and publishers. I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy the series, and if I have two or three of the series on my shelves then I have the possibility of binge-reading, which is sometimes pretty fun.
Next up I’m actually combining two weeks, because there’s only one book here for August 10th and then two for August 17th. There’s the next installment in the Ink & Sigil series, which is a spin-off of the Iron Druid Chronicles. Now, I’ve been wanting to re-read all of the IDC, and also write reviews of them for this blog, so maybe I’ll try and see how many of the series I can get through while I’m on vacation the first week of August. Hmm…
Anyway, then there’s the sequel to Lobizona, which I read and LOVED last year, as well as the sequel to Raybearer, which I have plans to read soon-ish, so again, I’ll probably just pick this one up even if I haven’t read the first one just yet.
Finally there are two books for August 24th and one for August 31st. There’s plenty of magic and witchy vibes in this set of releases…which means that honestly they might not be read until the weather starts cooling down and we head into fall. Plus there’s a sci-fi book here…and once again, I own the first book in the series–just picked it up I believe last month–and I still need to read it. But I’ve heard great things about The First Sister, so I’m guessing I’ll want to have The Second Rebel ready when I finish.
All right, I do believe that is all from me for today. What books released in the month of August are you excited about? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll be back soon with more geeky content.
